Last week we were delighted to host students from Principia College for lunch and a tour. On a Spring Break trip to Boston, they toured The Mother Church, Longyear Museum, and some of Mary Baker Eddy’s homes, and it was a joy to introduce them to the Benevolent Association!
“I was inspired to arrange this trip because I was looking for opportunities to support and deepen students’ spiritual development during breaks in the academic calendar,” said Roger Gordon, Director of Spiritual Life and Chaplain for Principia College. “A spring break trip to Boston made so much sense to support this goal. It afforded us the chance to see and learn much of the history of the founding of Christian Science and feel more connected to Mrs. Eddy’s story and the early workers in the Christian Science movement.”
…which hopefully helped students better understand, value, and appreciate all that Christian Science nursing has to offer them individually as well as the Christian Science movement as a whole.
For the majority of students, this was their first time in Boston, and for all of them, it was their first visit to the BA. Students learned about the history of the Benevolent Association, toured the Original Building and the Christian Science Nursing Building, and were introduced to our Training School.
“This trip also allowed us to feel connected to the heart of what’s happening in the Christian Science movement today, through many of the places we visited, especially The Mother Church,” said Roger. ”That is why visiting the BA was important as well, as it actually helped do both those things. It gave us a sense of the history of the BA and Mrs. Eddy’s request for a Christian Science refuge, and it showed us the work of Christian Science nurses today, which hopefully helped students better understand, value, and appreciate all that Christian Science nursing has to offer them individually as well as the Christian Science movement as a whole.”
