“Our gratitude is riches,” says Hymn 249 in our Christian Science Hymnal, and there’s no better place to put that into practice then as we care for the facilities of the Benevolent Association that provide this refuge for healing. Over the last two years we’ve made significant progress on upgrades and renovations which have been lovingly supported by donations. And while the need is still great for addressing additional projects, we’re taking a moment to be grateful for progress!
Caring for our nearly 24-acre campus with multiple buildings, some of which are 100+ years old, requires a comprehensive maintenance plan. In addition to that ongoing work, we’re grateful to share these top ten ‘above and beyond’ projects that have been accomplished.
Over the past two years:
24 rooms in the Original Building have been fully renovated or freshened up with new paint and ceiling tiles. Some have received window blinds and new bathroom fixtures.
580 yards of carpet have been replaced - including 3 corridors w/ subfloor repaired, the CSNB Garden level Christian Science Nurses Station and hallway, 5 Carriage House apartments, the front entrance steps, and 18 rooms in the Original Building.
26 rooms in the Original Building were furnished for incoming Residents or Rest & Study guests.
Space in the Original Building on the fourth floor was converted into a fully-equipped kitchen for Christian Science nurses. The new kitchen includes new flooring, all new cabinets and counters, lighting, three new refrigerators, and a new stove and dishwasher.
A new basement laundry room was created and 3 sets of washers & dryers were installed.
A new commercial dishwasher was obtained and professionally installed in the Garden level kitchen.
16 staff offices were moved and rearranged with newly donated furniture.
The blueprint room was reorganized and historical documents accounted for with an additional plan drawer.
The entire BA art collection was inventoried and cataloged with updated locations and the art storage room was redone and reorganized.
With much attention to detail, the entire Carriage House had a new HVAC system installed and the entire building was painted.
And the progress continues! We look forward to sharing updates as more projects are completed in support of this Christian Science refuge.
